Verizon

When you add Verizon internet to your Verizon mobile phone plan, you automatically save. Prices vary based on what internet is available in your area (Fios or cable), but Verizon is currently offering up to 50% off internet service if you have a mobile plan that’s more than $30/mo. If you have one of Verizon’s unlimited mobile plans like Get More, Do More, Play More you’ll have unlimited data to work with.

Pros

Widely available

Verizon is available nearly everywhere, and while Verizon 5G Home Internet and Fios isn’t, you’ll still largely have access to Verizon’s mobile service.

Above average customer satisfaction

Verizon’s score on the American Customer Satisfaction Index is 75/100, which places it above all of its competitors in this space and at the industry average of 75 in 2023.

Cons

Fios isn’t everywhere

Though Verizon is working hard to roll out Fios around the country, it’s still not available everywhere.

Can get pricey

Though Verizon will offer some deals when you bundle, as well as perks like a Disney+ subscription, the prices can be steep for some people.

Verizon Fios internet plans

Verizon’s internet plans have a combination of speed and pricing that has earned it our fourth-highest rating out of all ISPs.

Verizon Fios internet plans and pricing

Verizon Fios internet plans come with three download/upload speed options: 300/300 Mbps, 500/500 Mbps and up to 940/880 Mbps. If you’ve shopped for Verizon internet packages in the past, you may have seen 100 and 200 Mbps plans instead. Those plans are no longer available as Verizon recently increased their Fios speed tiers (without raising the starting price). While Verizon pricing and speeds may vary based on where you live, a Verizon Fios internet plan is one of your best options without having to sign an annual contract.

Verizon Fios review

By our analysis, Verizon Fios internet plans grade out as one of the best in the country — just behind AT&T’s fiber optic plans. Verizon Fios has no hidden fees, no annual contracts, no extra charges for required equipment and your price is guaranteed for up to four years with your Fios Gigabit Connection.

Verizon internet packages run exclusively on a fiber network, meaning you’ll get the fastest and most reliable connection possible.

But unlike a lot of providers, with Verizon Fios you won’t have to pay a fortune for that speed. Prices for internet-only plans start at $49.99/mo., and your bill won’t go up after a “promotion” period ends. It’s that combination of affordability and performance that earned Verizon home internet a 75 out of 100 in 2023’s American Customer Satisfaction Index.

Verizon Fios availability

Verizon Fios has limited availability compared to other providers. Its coverage area is mainly focused in the Northeast.

Some top cities that have Verizon Fios coverage include:

  • Dover, DE
  • Wilmington, DE
  • Boston, MA
  • Baltimore, MD
  • Columbia, MD
  • Camden, NJ
  • Trenton, NJ
  • Syracuse, NY
  • Harrisburg, PA
  • Philadelphia, PA
  • Pittsburgh, PA
  • Providence, RI
  • Washington, DC
  • Buffalo, NY
  • New York City, NY
  • Albany, NY
  • Norfolk, VA
  • Richmond, VA

Equipment, installation, data caps and contracts

Verizon Fios no longer charges rental fees for equipment for any plan, having rolled that fee into your monthly plan price. Verizon typically charges a $99 setup fee, but it’s currently waived for online orders.

More good news: There are no data caps on any Verizon Fios plans, so you won’t have to worry about how much you’re gaming, streaming and downloading.

Verizon Fios also doesn’t have any contracts, so you can leave any time without racking up early termination fees. Which is a pro when it comes to Verizon pricing.

Verizon Fios doesn’t require you to use their equipment

Although your router is now included with your Fios plan, you may want to consider purchasing your own Verizon-compatible router, which typically runs from $100 to $200. The benefit to that is you get to pick your speeds and features like parental controls and VPNs. If you do want to invest in your own router, just make sure it can handle the speeds you’re getting with your Fios plan. Of course, keep in mind that you are essentially paying for a router twice since part of the monthly plan price includes a rental fee for Verizon’s equipment.

Verizon deals

You can get $20/mo. off a month if you bundle your internet and mobile phone plans. Verizon also offers new customers a $50 Target Gift Card with the purchase of the 300 Mbps plan. 500 Mbps customers can get a $100 Target Gift Card, and 1 gig customers can get a $200 Target Gift Card along with a streaming or gaming bundle. 2 Gig customers can get a $300 Target Gift Card and the streaming or gaming bundle.

Bundling Verizon internet with TV service

Verizon Fios TV

Fios TV offers a wide variety of packages ranging from 125 – 425 channels, starting at $75/mo. You won’t need to worry about contracts or termination fees, and you can mix and match TV with internet and phone plans.

Verizon’s Mix and Match packages let you add TV or phone service to any internet plan — essentially what most providers do but with a catchy name. Fios TV packages will add anywhere from $70 to $110 to your monthly bill, and come with 125+ to 425+ channels. One unique perk of Verizon’s TV plans is that it lets you test drive the 425+ channel package for the lowest price for two months, so you can decide which package is right for you.

Additionally, Verizon has partnered with YouTube TV to add the live TV streaming service to your internet plan. It costs $64.99/mo. and includes over 85 channels. That said, this is the exact same price as it costs to subscribe to YouTube TV on its own, so there’s no real benefit to adding it to your Verizon Fios internet plan.

Verizon customer satisfaction

In the 2023 report from the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI), Verizon internet scored 75 out of 100, the overall average for fiber providers. AT&T, Google Fiber and Quantum Fiber scored above Verizon.

Verizon Fios Prepaid – Nearly identical to Verizon’s standard fiber internet service

  • Pros: Great speed plans (100, 300, 1,000 Mbps); pay month-to-month with no contract
  • Cons: Credit check or deposit required; must purchase a Verizon router for $199.99 or use your own

Verizon Fios – Best prepaid internet service overall

Why we recommend it: Verizon Fios is one of the best internet providers in the country, so it makes sense that it would have the best prepaid home internet, too. It’s not quite as good of a deal as regular Verizon Fios service, but it’s still the best in the business. Plus, if you purchase your router from Verizon, they’ll pay for your first month of service.

Verizon Fios: Best customer satisfaction

Verizon Fios is another great option for fast fiber internet, scoring just slightly below AT&T in our evaluation. Its prices are slightly lower — $49.99/mo. for 300 Mbps compared to AT&T’s $55/mo. for 300 Mbps. Verizon Fios also has the highest customer satisfaction scores of any internet provider from J.D. Power. While Verizon pricing and speeds may vary based on where you live, a Verizon Fios internet plan is one of your best options without having to sign an annual contract.

Why we like Verizon Fios

Fast speeds

Verizon Fios tops out at 940 Mbps download and 880 Mbps upload speeds.

No price increases

You won’t have to worry about any surprises on your Verizon bill after a promotional period ends.

High customer satisfaction

Verizon tops J.D. Power’s ratings for customer satisfaction.

Things to consider

More expensive

Verizon’s top plans are a little pricier than competitors, with gig speeds costing $89.99/mo.

Equipment fee

Verizon charges $15/mo. for equipment rental, which is higher than most providers.

Verizon offers two fixed wireless 5G plans at the cheapest price point in this list, at $25/mo., compared to other ISPs. Verizon 5G internet availability covers many cities across the U.S., and there are no annual contracts, hidden fees, price increases or data caps.

Verizon’s wireless internet network is another affordable fixed wireless option if its 5G plan isn’t for you. Though 5G is the latest generation, Verizon’s 4G LTE still produces reliable speeds and has the same benefits as its 5G Home Internet.
